The Sound of Caves

I had been thinking about this project for years until I found the time to do it, I felt ready to face the challenge of recording alone and I had the time and the necessary means to carry it out. The first step was the choice of the cavity, we found a place with ideal sound characteristics and where I could go alone and stay inside for long periods of time.

To get to the chosen room I had to walk about 30 minutes from the mouth of the cave. During this time I was invaded by a wonderful feeling of freedom and protection that became greater the further I penetrated inside. Once I got there: silence, broken by drops of water falling with a constant rhythm. I was sinking into a kind of trance, I took out my instrument, blew and everything enveloped me.

The sound in there remains and time stands still, all intimately related to the slow geological processes that take place. I had to find a way to play that respected this special environment, that is why I have gone so many times in complete solitude to achieve it. A whole process of unlearning that has made me freer and more conscious.

The music included in the album has been entirely improvised and, to tell the truth, there was no other alternative, since no piece composed on the outside could work in an environment with such specific sonic and temporal characteristics.

This work has been one of the most beautiful experiences I have lived, every time I left La Cueva I was still engrossed and had to shake myself to return to the rhythm of the rest of the world. I have lived moments full of mysticism, after which I can say that I am not the same person who entered there for the first time. And I want to go back, I always want to go back to the Cave, I would want to do it every day.
